Christmas – A State of Mind

It’s Christmas Eve; Stores are closing and last minute shopper’s scurry for the door so they can get home to be with their children, family and friends. Weary sales people breathe a sigh of relief as they finally get the chance to get off their feet and the ‘Magic of Christmas’ officially begins. A time when the size of the Christmas tree really doesn’t matter, in the eyes of a child they are all 30 feet tall. The innocence of Children as they anticipate the arrival of Santa Claus. It is that time of year when the child in all of us comes out to play.

There are many traditions on how people celebrate Christmas around the world, but I have found that we all have one thing in common, for that one day of the year; People are kinder and much more caring toward each other. It is a time for Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Men. It is the season when we can lay aside all worry, indulge in sentiment without censure, and assume the carefree faith of childhood and just ‘Have Fun’. Whether they call it Yuletide, Noel, Maligayang Pasko, Makahiki or Christmas. People all around the earth thirst for its refreshment as the desert traveler for the oasis.

Christmas is tenderness for the past, Courage for the present, and hope for the future. It is a fervent hope that every cup will overflow with Blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace. It is the only time of year when people follow their natural impulses and express their true nature without feeling self-conscious and perhaps foolish. Christmas in short, is about the only chance a person has to be themselves.

People are at their finest this time of year, we are, what we should always be, thinking more of others than of our self. We are less selfish than at any other time. Christmas is not about opening presents as it is opening our Hearts. The wonderful moment of ‘Peace on Earth’ for one night, it seems possible. It’s a time when everyone experiences an emotional state of rest. However, like most emotions, it’s temporary. When the tree comes down, the peace is gone, and the disillusioned world returns to its normal peacelessness.

This is the time that you must ask yourself; Do your family and friends need your Love more during the Holidays than any other time of year? Do the homeless need food, shelter and your understanding more during the holidays than any other time of the year? And do the children of the world need food, clothing and your compassion any more during the holidays than at any other time of the year? Christmas is not a date- It’s a state of mind.

Wouldn’t life be worth living and dreams be realized, if we could find a way to keep the Spirit of Christmas all year through and give to your life it’s highest beauty and joy. It can, if you have the willingness to give your kindness and understanding to everyone that comes into your life. This is truly the greatest ‘Present’ anyone could receive, the Wonderful ‘Gift’ of you. May we find Peace on earth and goodwill to all men not only for one day but every day.

Merry Christmas and a Happy Peaceful New Year.
